Rocky Mountain Ear Center, PC - Hearing, balance, facial nerve and ear disorders

Electrocochleography (ECOG)

This diagnostic test aids in the evaluation of ear disorders by measuring fluid pressure in the inner ear. Small receiving electrodes are taped to the skin and an electrode will be placed in your ear canal, close to your ear drum. You will be asked to relax in a reclining chair while listening to a series of fairly loud clicks. A computer will record the needed information.

Because an electrode will be placed at your ear drum, you may experience some discomfort during the testing. The placement of the electrode is crucial for this test.
